Dear fellow Jew,
I humbly reach out to you in a time of desperate need, seeking assistance in a situation that has become unbearable. The challenges I face have left me physically and emotionally drained, and I find myself unable to continue on my own. With a paralyzed right side and the amputation of my left leg, the pain and suffering have become overwhelming. I implore you to hear my plea and offer your support.
My name is Ephraim Schwartz, residing in Jerusalem. Several years ago, I began experiencing blood clots throughout my body, eventually leading to a severe heart attack. The resulting damage to my heart necessitated surgery, but due to the ongoing blood clots, the procedure resulted in an acute stroke, rendering the entire right side of my body paralyzed.
Despite the hardships I faced, the blood clots persisted, leading to the onset of gangrene in my left leg. Inevitably, the doctors had no choice but to amputate my leg. With half of my body paralyzed and my functional leg gone, I became wholly dependent on my devoted wife, who cared for me with unwavering dedication. However, tragedy struck unexpectedly, as my beloved wife passed away, leaving me consumed by sorrow and solitude.
To manage the blood clots, I require expensive medications and blood thinners that are not covered by my healthcare plan. I attempted to use a prosthesis, but the standard options proved incompatible with my amputated leg, causing excruciating pain.
The doctors have recommended a specialized prosthesis, but its cost is beyond my means. Additionally, my living situation exacerbates my struggles. Residing in an apartment building without an elevator, I am confined within my home, unable to venture outside. Even within the confines of my residence, I cannot move independently as it lacks wheelchair accessibility. Without the specialized prosthesis, I am unable to leave my wheelchair, trapped by the paralysis of my right leg. Simple tasks such as showering or getting in and out of bed have become insurmountable challenges.
For years, I have endured silently, reluctant to seek assistance. However, the weight of this unbearable situation is slowly overwhelming me, jeopardizing my very life. It is with great shame and humility that I now turn to you for help.
Please, I implore you, assist me in acquiring the specialized prosthesis that would enable me to stand once again. I must make my home wheelchair accessible, and a mobile stair lift is necessary for me to exit my apartment and bask in the rejuvenating embrace of fresh air and sunshine.
When you step outside your door and embrace the freedom of movement, I beseech you to think of me. As you navigate your home on your own two feet, I appeal to your compassion and empathy.
Never did I imagine that I would find myself in a position of asking for charity, but circumstances have left me no alternative. I humbly request your help in my time of need.
Thank you from the depths of my heart. May your benevolence continue to touch the lives of others, and may you be blessed with enduring health and boundless happiness.
With utmost gratitude,
Ephraim Schwartz
